  • Would you like to organise a community event to digitally capture Second World War artefacts and experiences?
  • Do you like organising events/digital photography/meeting people/hearing and recording stories of wartime experiences?
  • Would you like to work as part of a team, supported and trained by the University of Oxford, helping to preserve a community’s experience of the Second World War?

Their Finest Hour is an Oxford University-led project that aims to empower local communities to organise and run Digital Collection Days.

As an organiser, you will invite members of the public to bring along their Second World War-related stories and objects to a public place - a place of worship, a library, a school, or somewhere else - so that they can be 'digitised' (i.e. photographed). The photographs will then be uploaded to our online archive for everyone to see and share.

You will receive free training from our University of Oxford-based team. Through regional and online courses, you will learn how to prepare, promote, and run a Digital Collection Day.

You will receive enhanced knowledge of the subject, transferable skills in event management, interviewing, digitisation, and public engagement, and will hopefully be inspired to learn more about your local community.

We anticipate that both contributors (those bringing in items and stories) and organisers (running the Digital Collection Days) will enjoy being part of a large project that will result in these stories being shared with a worldwide online audience.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER AT/ORGANISE A DIGITAL COLLECTION DAY, PLEASE COMPLETE THE EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FORM ON THE RIGHT AND WE WILL GET BACK TO YOU.
